Welcome to the Sangre de Cristo Audubon Society website and the place where to download our quarterly newsletter, The Mountain Chickadee.

We take our name from the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, the southernmost outpost of the Rocky Mountains in North America that forms a backdrop for our chapter area activities.

There are approximately 1500 Audubon members representing Santa Fe, Los Alamos, Española, Taos, Las Vegas, and other communities in northern New Mexico.

Our focus is on educational activities for adults that are aimed at fostering a culture of conservation in our communities. We sponsor field trip events on a regular basis and frequent evening educational program events. We also are active in advocating for birds and the environment, basing our positions on sound science and careful analysis. Come and participate with us.

Why are these the five best species for our gardens?

The Sangre de Cristo Audubon Society website is a resource for its members. Its content is different from the quarterly Mountain Chickadee; it is local, dynamic, and sourced from the members and local authors with short, interesting articles about local conservation issues, events, and everyday stories.

Contributed articles are for the interest of all members and other website visitors. These contributions can be, for example, short, relevant articles--found or authored--field trip reports, book reviews, how-to educational pieces, or upcoming events for the events calendar.

Hopefully, most always, there will be a captivating image or a photo to go with to help to tell the story.
